Terms and Conditions
The Spanish Center Mérida, hereinafter referred to as SCM, agrees to provide Spanish Immersion courses for students with experienced and trained teachers, and provide a number of related services such as accommodation and activities. These Terms & Conditions apply from the moment the student has submitted and completed the SCM booking form.
Payments
Payments may be effected by bank transfer or Paypal and must be received in full 14 days prior to the program start date. A deposit is required to confirm the program booking. Until this deposit is received we are unable to guarantee program availability. If the booking is submitted less than two (2) weeks before the program start date, students must pay the full program fee. Bank details are provided on the invoice. Payments must include all bank transfer charges (including intermediary bank charges).
Refunds and Cancellation fees
Cancellation prior to arrival
For cancellations received fourteen (14) days or more in advance of the program start date, SCM will refund all but the deposit and less non refundable charges (bank charges). For cancellations received less than fourteen (14) days in advance of the program start date, 1 week of accommodation and tuition, courier fees and bank charges will be charged.
Cancellation after arrival
Bookings of 4 weeks or fewer: After a course has started there is no refund for any program or service, this includes cancellations and/or part cancellations. Bookings of 5 weeks and over: Students who terminate their course/accommodation in the first 4 weeks will be refunded all tuition/accommodation except 4 weeks at the non-discounted rate found in the SCM Pricelist. Students who terminate their course/accommodation after the 4th week, will be charged at a prorated amount of tuition/accommodation at the non-discounted rate found in the SCM Pricelist.
Holidays
The school will be closed on Public Holidays. SCM does not make up for lessons missed on these dates. Exceptions are made for One-to-One courses where lessons missed will be made up. There is no refund for lessons missed.
Transfers
Flight details including: arrival time, flight numbers, airline and point of origin must be advised 7 days prior to arrival in order for SCM to provide airport transfers. No refunds will be granted on transfers if flight details are not sent to SCM at least 7 days prior to arrival. Airport transfer fees include a maximum of 1 hour waiting time: in the event of delays exceeding 1 hour, students will be charged the additional fee at the school.
Class Information
Classes are held Monday to Friday, starting in the morning. However, SCM reserves the right to introduce a double banking time table where students alternate between morning and afternoon lessons, on a weekly or daily basis.
Responsibility and Liability
SCM, or its staff, owners, promoters, associates or partners, will not be held liable for any loss, illness or injury that the student may incur either at the school, during school excursions, or any other activity organized or recommended by teachers or staff employed by SCM. The host families are provided by SCM as a service to the student and neither the school nor the family shall be held liable for any illness or injury resulting while the student is in the SCM and/or staying with a host family or in any other place in the city of Mérida or Mexico.

SCM will not be responsible for any failure to comply with any of its obligations (and, therefore, shall not be required to provide any compensation) if the failure is occasioned by any cause beyond SCM’s reasonable control; nor shall SCM be responsible for any costs incurred by or on behalf of the student as a result of any such cause. Such causes shall include but shall not be limited to war, threat of war, riot, civil strife, industrial dispute, terrorist activity, natural or nuclear disaster, unusually adverse weather conditions and infectious diseases.
Supervision
Please note SCM does not provide supervision for any students.
Expulsion
SCM reserves the right to expel students for unacceptable behaviour or lack of attendance. No refund will be given. Repatriation is at student’s own expense.
Damage to Property
Students must pay the full cost of any damage they cause to property.
Insurance
Students must have adequate health, accident and travel insurance while attending any of our programs.
Documents
It will be the responsibility of each individual coming to this institution to obtain the necessary documents and permits to leave his/her country, as well as the visa to enter Mexico.
Photography & Filming
SCM may take promotional photographs and video footage of students. If students do not wish to participate, SCM will respect their wishes if SCM has been notified.
